Serbia joined the SEPA schemes: 18 banks ready for euro transfers

The European Commission announced that 18 Serbian banks have officially joined the SEPA schemes.
What happened?
- In its statement of 5 May 2026, the Commission (DG Enlargement) announced Serbia’s accession to the SEPA schemes within the framework of “faster and cheaper euro transactions”.
- This adds Serbia to the Western Balkan/Enlargement partners that have joined SEPA (previously Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Moldova had joined).
What does it mean?
Serbian banks joining the SEPA schemes allows euro transfers to be standardised with IBAN + common rules. However, scheme participation does not mean that every bank offers the service to all its customers — verification on a per-bank basis is recommended.
