Albania, Moldova, Montenegro and North Macedonia joined the SEPA schemes

The European Commission announced that a total of 40 banks from Albania, Moldova, Montenegro and North Macedonia are the first Enlargement partners to join the SEPA schemes.
Timeline
- November 2024: Albania and Montenegro entered the SEPA geographical scope.
- March 2025: North Macedonia and Moldova entered the geographical scope.
- October 2025: 40 banks from the four countries actually joined the SEPA schemes (Commission statement, 16 Oct 2025).
An important distinction (YMYL)
Entering the SEPA geographical scope and a bank actually joining a scheme are not the same thing; and even participation does not mean the service is offered to every customer. For example, Montenegro uses the euro unilaterally (it is not a eurozone member) and its participating banks are initially only in the SCT scheme.
