How does this tool calculate?

Heuristic — rule-based estimate
Method/formula used
A ranking of possible delay causes based on the indicators you enter (submission time, weekend/holiday, amount, name–IBAN, SWIFT likelihood).
Data used
SEPA SCT / SCT Instant rules + user indicators
Unsupported cases
  • A definite status requires confirmation with the sending/recipient bank
  • Compliance/AML-related holds cannot be known in advance

How long is it normal to wait?

Standard SEPA (SCT) is processed on business days and the amount arrives by the next banking day at the latest. A weekend, public holiday or submission after the cut-off time extends the time. SEPA Instant works 24/7 and is expected to arrive within seconds; however, if one of the parties does not support it, the transaction may fall back to standard SCT. For detail, see how many days a SEPA transfer takes and payee name–IBAN mismatch.
