What is a Bankleitzahl (BLZ)?

The BLZ is the 8-digit national bank code that identifies banks in Germany, and it appears in positions 5–12 of a German IBAN. It is published by the Deutsche Bundesbank (Germany's central bank) and updated regularly.

Data source and freshness

This tool queries a database fed by the current Bundesbank (Germany's central bank) BLZ list. The list is updated automatically according to the Bundesbank's quarterly publication schedule; only primary (Merkmal = 1) records are used. For a BLZ not in the records, the result is shown as Not verified.
